Amanda Holden stuns the public by accusing Davina McCall of being responsible for Jamie Theakston’s illness, alleging, ‘Her pranks caused damage to his throat.’

AMANDA Holden has suggested Davina McCall may be the reason Jamie Theakston found out about his cancer after she “half throttled him”.

The Heart Breakfast host reminded Davina of the “bear hug” she gave Jamie back in June, jokingly suggesting it caused Jamie to lose his voice and in turn, seek help.

This eventually resulted in the 53-year-old receiving his cancer diagnosis.

Jamie had emergency surgery after a lesion was found on his vocal cords, which was later diagnosed as stage 1 laryngeal cancer.

Announcing the news to his fans in an Instagram post today, the popular DJ said he should be back to work alongside Amanda in October.

After the news was revealed, Amanda was joined by Davina on Heart Breakfast and joked that, when Davina filled in for her back in June, the TV star thought she’d caused Jamie’s throat problems after “throttling him with a bear hug”.

Amanda said: “We kind of want to thank you because when, on the day that you left… now Davina is known for her bear hugs.”

Davina interjected, saying: “I’m worried about this.”

Amanda continued: “You gave Jamie a massive cuddle which kind of half throttled him. Because of that, when I came back, Jamie started losing his voice and it got worse and worse.”

A concerned Davina then said: “Did I do it?” to which Amanda replied: “He went to the doctor and the doctor said, ‘This isn’t right, we’re going to look at your throat’ and because of you, he went to the doctor in the first place.

“Then, on his throat they found a lesion, which he’s since had removed and everything is fine.”

In an Instagram post, Jamie said: “Hi folks, as you know – I recently had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal cords.

“The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer.

“So I have cancer but cancer doesn’t have me!

“The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October.

“Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda.

“Huge thanks to them and all the Global family who have been unbelievably supportive.

“Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell.”

Reg flags of cancer you must look for and act upon

THERE are more than 200 types of cancer, each with its own set of symptoms.

A cough lasting three weeks or more is a key sign of lung cancer – the most common cancer in the UK.

Changes to bowel habits lasting more than three weeks, such as diarrhoea, constipation, blood when you poo, or needing to go more often, are signs of bowel cancer, the second most common form of the disease.

There are also common symptoms that can be “red flags” of many forms of cancer, and should always be checked.

They include:

  • Weight loss for no obvious reason.
  • Pain that is persistent and unexplained, whether it be dull and consistent, or sharp and brief.
  • Any lumps, bumps or swellings, such as in the neck, armpit, stomach, groin, chest, breast or testicle.
  • Fatigue that makes you feel tired all the time and generally lacking in energy.
  • Night sweats that are very heavy or a fever that can’t be explained.
  • Changes to the skin, such as puckering on the breast, moles that have changed, very itchy or yellow skin.
  • Unexplained bleeding from the bottom or vagina, or blood in urine, semen, stool, vomit or when coughing.

A message posted on social media earlier this month read: “Sooo – a few of you listeners have noticed my voice hasn’t sounded right these past few weeks – I’ve got you to thank… got it checked.

“Doctors found a lesion on my vocal cords which I’ve had removed this weekend.

“Thanks for all the kind messages should be back on my feet soon – in the meantime…”

Laryngeal cancer affects the voice box and is normally treated with radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy and targeted cancer medicines.

The prognosis for stage 1 of the condition is good with 90 per cent of those diagnosed expected to live for five years or more.

Amanda, who has since revealed Jamie’s powerful message to her and his co-stars live on air, shared Jamie’s post on her story and added: “We love you @jamie_theakston.”

She then wrote on her profile: “Our wonderful @jamie_theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer.

“His prognosis is very good and he has an incredible team around him.

“Jamie. we love and miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon.”
